Take the Time

I want to tell you about Ellie. She is such a sweet, sensitive, and loving young girl. She is one of those kids that always has a smile on her face and loves loving people. She is such a joy to bring on trips because she is always so appreciative and grateful about every single part of our events, which is always heartwarming.

A few weeks ago, we took kids paddle boarding and she had never even seen a paddle board before, so this was a very new experience for her. As we get in the water, most of the kids pick it up pretty quickly and take off, but she is struggling hard core. Her board is just going in circles and she has such a look of defeat on her face. So, another staff member and myself stayed back to help walk her through it and work on it with her. After a bit she got it and was paddling no problem! After a few hours on the water we’re having dinner and she just looks as me and says, “Thank you. No one in my family takes the time to help me.” It’s safe to say my heart instantly melted.

Even though we have had to figure out new ways to do ministry, we are still going after kids with the Gospel. Being together was so refreshing and joyous. It was one of those moments where the phrase, “you don’t know how much you appreciate something until it’s gone,” came into full affect. It was for sure a day full of, “Wow I missed this!” moments. And Jesus was all over it.
