I want you guys to meet Ashley. She is one of the many wonderful kids that I get the privilege to know. Ashley is hilarious, kindhearted, and very talented. When I first met Ashley, I thought ‘wow this kid is a natural leader.’ People naturally gravitate towards her, when she walks into the room, she owns it.
As I got to know Ashley more and spend more time with her, I quickly learned that she doesn’t say anything to just please others. She means exactly what she says and says exactly what she means. We were in a small group a year ago talking about where we were at in our faith and she, very politely, said, ‘’I don’t believe in God. I don’t want to follow Him, I just want to do my own thing in life.” Even though that did hurt my heart a little, I really did appreciate her honesty. Despite how she felt about God, she still attended every meeting, trip, and event where the Gospel was preached.
Over the last year I have been able to see the love and grace of Jesus completely soften and transform the heart of Ashley. Last month, I had a conversation with her talking about faith and she said, “God’s love is so intense for me and I know He has a plan and purpose for my life. To say He has changed me is an understatement.” That’s a big difference from what she was saying a year ago! Seeing young people have life transforming experiences with God never gets old or unexciting. It’s a blessing and an honor to be a part of every single time. I ask you to please pray for Ashley, that God would continue to grow her faith and she would allow Him to enter her heart even deeper.
