In a day when it’s an honor to be called the G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time), a middle school girl named Kara from Albany City Life introduces herself each week as Kara the Sheep. At first, I was confused, was this just a joke, but then I asked her one day what was the meaning behind the name, Kara the sheep. She then reminded me of one of our first Club sessions this school year when we were talking about Matthew 25: 31-33 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left”. Kara then stated that when she dies, she wants to be one of the sheep that God welcomes into heaven as his good and faithful servant.
I was stunned, here standing before me was a young girl reciting scripture about end times and how she wanted to be counted amongst the sheep. What shocked me the most though was not that she wanted to be a sheep, but she wants others to know that she is a sheep. What an amazing way to witness to people! When they ask why she identifies herself as Kara the Sheep, are we as bold as her, could we publicly identify ourselves as sheep and not feel awkward about it?
I would ask for you to please pray for Kara and all the youth that attend Albany City Life, that they would come to know Jesus and boldly declare that they desire to be sheep.
