I met Jeremy last Christmas, when we had just started at our new location in the City of Albany. If you were to come to Club, Jeremy would be the first student to greet you, he loves to meet new people. One night at Club, we decided to make and decorate Christmas cookies. This night provided a great opportunity to begin to know Jeremy better. We learned that Jeremy is a fifth grader and older brother, and he has not had an easy life. Jeremy is being raised by a single father, recently found out that his mother died to drug addiction last year, almost lost his little brother to a hyperglycemic coma and struggles to avoid confrontation while at school.
Jeremy is looking for anyone to listen to his story and the struggles he is going through, we at City Life are there to offer our listening ear. Recently, we were able to bring Jeremy to a middle school retreat where he heard the good news of Jesus Christ. While there, he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior, hallelujah! It was an amazing weekend and afterwards when speaking with Jeremy he said, “I feel free from all my problems and know that I have someone who will listen to me all the time and be there for me.” A few weeks after the retreat, a volunteer asked Jeremy what he had learned about Jesus while at the retreat, the response he gave was amazing, “that we come third; it is first God, then neighbors, then self.” This is a response from a youth who has been through the worst this past year, but now trust in God and is striving to put himself third.
I ask that you continue to pray for Jeremy as he continues to grow as a Christian and that his light will shine through for others to see and come to accept Christ.
