Heatwave is a week-long conference for our high school students, and we were able to see young lives get transformed by the power of God, kids being set free from all kinds of addictions, pain, and most importantly we were able to see lost souls come to know Jesus.
One student that was personally affected at Heatwave was Zoey. Zoey is a shy, hilarious, sweet girl. Zoey grew up knowing about God, but never had her own relationship with God. She always relied on her family’s relationship with God to sustain hers. So, it was safe to say she did not have her own active living relationship with God.
Zoey surrendered her heart to Jesus one night during an altar call and I had a beautiful conversation with her about what she thought about her relationship with God. She knew she wanted a relationship with God, but she wasn’t sure how to go about it. She said to me, “I don’t need to wait until I’m older or when I get my stuff together. I can give God my life right now. He is waiting for me with arms open.” My heart absolutely melted. Right there in that moment it makes every hardship, frustration with a kid, and exhausting day worth it all. To see a young student have that moment of realization with Lord, nothing compares.
