Charles is a stubborn, rebellious, funny kid who loves to be involved without actually showing interest in being involved. He is one of those kids who’s “too cool for school”, he was great at acting like he did not care. Charles comes from a single parent home with no religious background. His parents don’t seem to show too much interest or concern.
When I first met Charles a year ago at Club, he was very cold and difficult. He loved doing the opposite of whatever you asked him to do. But over the course of this past year, I’ve had the privilege of seeing God’s hand move in his heart…slowly but surely. Charles was able to come to summer camp with us this past summer and he had a moment with God.
Ever since camp, yes he still has his moments of difficulty, he has been more involved positively, listens more and even helps out with activities for Club. Charles heart has softened and he is even showing interest in what we are teaching every week at Club.
My favorite part about Charles story is in Club we have been going over scripture the last couple of months. To be honest I thought everything I had been teaching was going right over Charles head, in one ear and out the other, but the other day he sent me a picture of his Bible (where did he get that Bible from? I have no idea) and the verse we were going over that month was underlined! My jaw dropped. I felt as if God was saying, “hey, none of this is in vain.” Then just a few days later, Charles texted me simply saying, “Thank you.” And my heart melted. I believe God has a plan for Charles life and wants to use him in his school community. I ask for prayer for Charles’ heart and his family as he continues down this road with figuring out who God is and how much he is loved.
